Topic: Child Labor in the Asia-Pacific Region
Chairs: Jason Li and Samantha Kemp Crisis Staff: Suraj Pandit and Daryn Mehling Email: sc[email protected] Topic Description: In the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in the textile industry, corporations extensively employ child labor in factories to manufacture products for foreign sale. Still, the current actions by the UN and local governments have not led to the elimination of child labor in this region. Security Council action may help end this human rights crisis.

Jason Li
Jason Li is a junior at Cupertino High School. Outside of school and MUN, Jason manages a nonprofit organization which aims to help elementary and middle school students build their confidence along with their communication skills through public speaking. In addition, Jason is part of his school’s water polo team but also enjoys exercising and playing the sport in his free time! |
Samantha Kemp
Samantha is a Junior at St. Francis in Sacramento. She has been involved in MUN since freshman year, and is excited at the opportunity to chair her first conference. At school, she participates in Cross Country and Swim, and also works with the tech club where she helps put on theater performances. She loves all things STEM, but still doesn't know what exactly is going on in AP Chem. |
Suraj Pandit
Suraj Pandit is a senior at Kinkaid High School in Houston, Texas. He has participated in Model UN since his Freshman year. He holds a deep interest in world events and history, and has spent his summers enrolled in courses learning about world sociopolitical systems and geopolitics. In the summer prior to his senior year, he has been accepted into a Cornell course, studying War, Peace, Poverty, and Power: Introduction to International Relations, and is researching racial justice in America with an accomplished professor and author. |
Daryn Mehling
Daryn Mehling is a senior at The Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas. She has been attending MUN conferences in Texas and across the nation since freshman year. Her favorite MUN experience was on a special committee that debated British imperialism in India. Outside of MUN, Daryn is a member of the varsity tennis team and active in student government. In her free time, she plays the guitar and piano. |
